About Me

Hello and welcome to Teacher Jargon! I am thrilled that you’ve found your way to my little piece of the internet. My name is Mallory, and I am a literacy curriculum specialist for an educational publishing company. I started my teaching career in 2014 in Oklahoma where I taught for three years before moving to Houston, TX. I worked in public education  as a 9-12 ELAR teacher and instructional coach for ten years before discovering an opportunity to expand my impact beyond just my classroom, campus, and district.

Teaching is an artform, a science, and a passion. I constantly pursue information that will help me better develop my craft, and I like to believe that I have picked up golden nuggets of information along my journey. It is here, in this space, that I would like to share those golden nuggets with you. Many of the resources I have shared are from the greats that have come before me; authors like Kylene Beers, Kelly Gallagher, Donalynn Miller, Dr. Joyce Armstrong Carroll, Nancy Atwell, and many others have inspired me to reconsider what reading and writing can look like in the ELAR classroom and beyond. I’ve taken great risks in the classroom, challenging students and teachers to be willing to fail. By taking these risks, I have encountered great successes that have reinforced my practice. I’ve also encountered epic failures that have forced me to return to the drawing board, reconsider the research, and try again. As you explore the various resources in this space, I encourage you to adapt these resources to be authentic for yourself, as I have done.

When I don’t have my head in a professional development book, I’m usually seeking my next adrenaline-filled adventure. My husband and I enjoy SCUBA diving, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, and riding the fastest, tallest rollercoaster at any theme park. On my “chill” days, you might find me visiting the newest coffee shop or brewery, curled up with a blanket and my two adorable doggos watching the newest true crime documentary on Netflix, or chasing a PR on my Peloton.

Join me, as I share my teaching adventures with you, and if you have questions along the way, please contact me. I hope that you leave this space with something you can take back to your classroom. Be bold. Be brave.  R
